Welcome to where I am, where my kitchen's always messy, a pot's (or a poet) always about to boil over, a dog is always begging to be fed. Drafts of poems on the counter. Windows filled with leaves. Wind. Clouds moving over the mountains. If you like poetry, books, and music--especially dog howls when a siren unwinds down the hill-- you'll like it here.

MY NEW AUTHOR'S SITE, KATHRYNSTRIPLINGBYER.COM, THAT I MYSELF SET UP THROUGH WEEBLY.COM, IS NOW UP. I HAD FUN CREATING THIS SITE AND WOULD RECOMMEND WEEBLY.COM TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN SETTING UP A WEBSITE. I INVITE YOU TO VISIT MY NEW SITE TO KEEP UP WITH EVENTS RELATED TO MY NEW BOOK.

MY NC POET LAUREATE BLOG, MY LAUREATE'S LASSO, WILL REMAIN UP AS AN ARCHIVE OF NC POETS, GRADES K-INFINITY! I INVITE YOU TO VISIT WHEN YOU FEEL THE NEED TO READ SOME GOOD POEMS.

VISIT MY NEW BLOG, MOUNTAIN WOMAN, WHERE YOU WILL FIND UPDATES ON WHAT'S HAPPENING IN MY KITCHEN, IN THE ENVIRONMENT, IN MY IMAGINATION, IN MY GARDEN, AND AMONG MY MOUNTAIN WOMEN FRIENDS.

Hey, I Won an Award from Coldfront

Now, isn't that nice of them? To give me an award! I found out about it from a poet-acquaintance who had seen it on their site. I haven't gotten my plaque yet, though. I am not so sure Coldfront is American's favorite poetry review Journal, especially among those of us who've had our books dissed, but so what? I'll take whatever award they are handing out.

Best Response to Coldfront
(Award for greatness in reacting to America's favorite poetry review journal)

No competition this year:

Kay, CONGRATULATIONS. I remember that flashy spread with funny photos. I laughed and laughed.
You got an award in my heart that day. We've gotta have some fun, don't we?

I stay beaten down. I hardly ever get plucky, but after reading a certain letter from the editor recently I've been writing a letter back to him in my head. Careful, Careful girl, the little voice says. I'm thinking about the editor writing in the front of his quarterly about scheduling his regulars and the little voice asked, how regular, like once a decade. Does that count? Forget it? Forget it. I know. Just write the poems. A miracle will happen.

Nancy, it's hard to forget rejection letters from editors. And hard to stay plucky. I really like that word. I'm pretty sure a miracle, or whatever we want to call it, will happen. The poems themselves are that, there's an audience out there for your work and we want to see it in book form soon. K.

Thanks, Kay. I hope. I hope. Hey. Isn't it a beautiful day in the neighborhood? This sunshine helps.
